Needle Felting..Wet Felting question.

Ok everyone. I started felting...wet felting a year ago. I made beads for bracelets. I have been wanting to do more and now have some needles for needle felting. However I have been looking at the prices. What an expensive little craft. At least for me. Are you all paying $3.50 and more for an ounce and $10.00 a skein? I just found a place that I could get $25.00 for 1 LB is this good? If I get four more people I can get it at a wholesale price which is close to half they told me. Is this good?

Where do you buy it?  How do you get your wool?  Helping would be appreciated.

  1. My favorite source is West Earl Woolen Mill. 717-859-2241. Usually about $7.70 per pound. The wool is very high quality and the service is amazing! Hope it helps!

  2. I bought fiber through this website. It came in the mail right away. I ordered a big sample bag with a small amount of many colors and have found it great for needle felting. http://www.mielkesfarm.com/

Two years ago I asked a neighbor that had sheep if we could watch them get sheared. After the shearing we bought an entire fleece for about $8. I completely underestimated the amount of effort that was required to get it ready to needle felt. It took about 1.5 weeks working 4 hours per day to get it washed (and it still is pretty dirty). Now it needs to be carded (carders cost around $50/pair). It has been an interesting experience, and I still have a lot of uncarded fleece.

    1. Thank you for the information I will look at the site. I understand that must be a lot of work to get it clean. Wow.
