Mom said yes to painting on the wall!

We are a family that really enjoys art. I try to incorporate a real art lesson a few times a week. I have no background in art so everything that I teach them is from research online and in books. Soon they will be taking a watercolor class, but until then they just create.

This past weekend they wanted to paint on their wall.  Oh no you can't do that was my first thought.  Then I realized that people do have painted murals on the wall and that it usually looks nice. I told them if they painted what they wanted on a piece of paper first then they could paint on the wall. This was just to make sure they had a plan.

Off they went to paint.....In no time they were back with their paintings complete. I taped off a section of the wall and they began. They did a wonderful job. The paintings look great, they had fun and Mom learned its not so bad for kids to paint on the wall.  With a plan that is.

CG's painting on the wall of a bird feeder, bird bath and bird. Original in upper left corner.

SA's painting on wall of a bird house. The original on right.

  2. Painting on the walls? Hmm...I don't know if I could do that! LOL I already have pen lines from one side to the other in the boy's room from my youngest! ;) But their paintings are very creative!

  3. Yay, you! My parents let me paint on my bedroom walls when I was young, and I was so happy! When it gets right down to it... what is a little paint? The only drawback, as far as I am concerned, is that you can't take it down and keep it. At the time, I painted trees, and lots of naked fairies flitting about my room, haha.

My kids are a bit young for painting their walls, but, when we were running daycare out of our home, we let the kids paint the built in playhouse in our basement, I know the faces you speak of! They were so shocked and ecstatic! :) And it looked so much more adorable when they were done adding bushes, flowers, vines, and butterflies.

We're repainting our basement right now, (our playroom,) and my 3 year old has been begging to help. I am not really ready to let her roller away, (especially not over new carpet!) but I love the idea here! I think I will definitely be taping off some "canvases" for her to add her art to. She is going to be so excited, thanks!

  6. They did a good job! I'm impressed with how well they stayed within the boundaries of the tape.

And if they get tired of their bird feeders you can always paint over it and give them a blank slate.
