This would be how you would make whipped cream, it will look like that. You will go past the whipped cream stage and you will notice that it will start to separate. When it looks like this then it is done. Buttermilk and butter.
Scoop out the butter and pour the buttermilk in a jar. Wash the butter in cold running water and work it a little until the water runs clear. You can add herbs and freeze it if you want. Use the buttermilk for baking see our Donut Muffin recipe.
We also made some fresh English Muffins to go with the butter.
This was a website that we found. It also has some suggestions on books.
http://www.webexhibits.org/butter/index.html This was a fun and easy project for the kids to learn. You can explore history and science.
Great job!! Good for you...
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love your Blog.
DeleteI didn't know you were suppposed to rinse the butter after making it, I learned something.
ReplyDeleteOh, and thanks for linking to Science Sunday!
ReplyDeleteOh no thank you. I believe you wash it and work it to get the flavors to release.
DeleteOh, how fun!! You can also make it by shaking a jar, but it takes much longer. We did it at a class at a farm once. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!
ReplyDeleteFresh butter sounds great, especially on something warm and freshly baked. Yum! Vicky from Mess For Less
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous! We tried this last year and could not get it to work. Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Show-and-Share Saturdays.
Try again it is really fun and easy.
DeleteWe've tried both making it in a jar and in the vitamix. We had butter in like 3 minutes with the vitamix. I love making these with my kids. It's a great way to show how things are made.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! We just made butter at the farm...with a plastic, lidded container, heavy cream and a marble! LOL We made garlic butter, cinnamon butter, salted butter, and honey butter. (We each made a batch.) And tried our butters on fresh, homemade bread! Yum!
ReplyDeleteYumm! Isn't it amazing how easy some things can be - when you have someone explain them to you. Thank you for explaining them to me! And for sharing on NOBH!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to do and then taste. Sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing on Monday Madness.
ReplyDeleteI seen posts about people making butter in a jar but didn't know it would work with a mixer... so that's what happens if you mix whipped cream too long!! I'd love it if you'd link up to Food Adventure Friday!
